There are many today who have an identity crisis. It is so apparent in how people, particularly the youth, live their lives these days. It is as though we are modern day Esaus who live for the pleasure of the moment, saying to ourselves “eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we die.”
It is as though we have no sense of purpose, living only to gratify a vacuum that expands daily as we feed it with nothingness.
The more we feed it, the emptier we feel. I’m convinced that we have lost the sense of identity given to us from up above. We don’t know who we are because we don’t know whose we are and because of this we have no sense of purpose.
It is for this very reason that I wasn’t only blessed but also revived this year, having attended the AMEN Bible Conference. The presentations seemed to gravitate toward building up our identity as children of our Father in heaven, especially as Seventh-day Adventist Christians, having our history drawn up from the book of Revelation chapter 10.
Not only that, but also confirming unique doctrines like the Sabbath and the Sanctuary, which together are what set us apart from nominal Christianity, making us these special people that we are.
With the rise of infidelity, fornication, the love of pleasure and the world, selfishness and lawlessness, etc in our very own church, this movement seems to be stationary. I truly believe that if we acquainted ourselves with God, knowing Him and Jesus Christ whom He has sent we would know who we are.
Notice the power we have simply by being acquainted with God:
21 Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee. 22 Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thine heart. 23 If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, thou shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacles. 24 Then shalt thou lay up gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks. 25 Yea, the Almighty shall be thy defense, and thou shalt have plenty of silver. 26 For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face unto God. 27 Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows. 28 Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways. 29 When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person. 30 He shall deliver the island of the innocent: and it is delivered by the pureness of thine hands.
Do you realize that this is just scratching the surface? Can you imagine what we can do through Christ when we TRULY know our Father in heaven and His Son whom He has sent?! Wondrous things await us if we but know who we are by establishing whose we are. Without doing this we are with no identity, no purpose, and no direction.
We thank God that you were able to attend the conference this year, and having done so, you have now been equipped with powerful knowledge. And if that wasn’t enough, there’s still time for you to register for the upcoming AFCOE training programme which will be running from 24 January 2016 – 20 February 2016. Remember, it isn’t enough to only know but also to put that knowledge into action. Therein lies the true power.
As you reestablish your identity in Christ and seek doing the will of the Father by His Spirit, be faithful and be true to them.
May they bless you and guide you as you spread the advent message to every nation.
Be blessed and be a blessing.
