The long-awaited AMEN pre-conference began in Cape Town on the evening of Wednesday the 11th of December 2013 at the Riverside SDA church; marking the beginning of six days of a holy convocation of young people who sought to learn more about God and to the equipped with knowledge and skills of spreading the Good News.
On the first of the two evenings of the pre-conference, Justin Hendricks delivered a message about the Holy Spirit’s desire to give us power and the desire to be witnesses of the gospel in our everyday lives. Amongst other points that he brought up, we were reminded that we are to be witnesses via a life empowered by God, we cannot do it by ourselves.
Pastor Busi Khumalo, the youth director of the Southern African-Indian Ocean division, delivered the message on the second evening. The title of the message was, “Disciples urgently needed”. He emphasized the point that the great commission is not an advertisement or notice for a select few, but it is for all of us. He also said, “The mission-field is where you are”, reminding us that we are to be missionaries in our everyday lives to our families, colleagues, school mates, friends, etc.
Our hearts we moved by these powerful messages from the Lord and we were prepared for the conference that ran from Friday the 13th of December to Monday the 16th of December at CPUT, Cape Town.
At the conference we were continually equipped and inspired to spread the gospel in our everyday lives through God-inspired messages from all our speakers, especially our main guest speaker – Pastor Wes Peppers.
The breakout sessions included: Music presented by Marion Peppers, How to preach – Pastor Jongimpi Papu, The Preparation – Renier and Chantell Horn, Relationships – Richard and Jenny Lovemore, Evangelism – Pastor Gideon Reyneke, Pastor Wes Peppers, Prophecy – Loago Setswalo.

We not only learnt the theory of evangelism, but also experienced the practical side of it. Various forms of outreach were organized: Train ministry in the early mornings on each day of the conference, community outreaches were held at Heideveld, Ravensmead and Saltriver, some of the conference attendees were involved in the CBD outreach in the busy hub of Cape Town and others took part in hospital evangelism at Tygerberg hospital on Sabbath and Sunday afternoon.
By God’s grace, the conference served a generous portion of spiritual food which was impetus for many to start/continue to apply what they had learned; we praise God for these awesome opportunities!
